The day so many gamers have been waiting for has finally arrived. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is out today.

Fans of “The Legend of Zelda” series had to wait more than six long years for the sequel to the award-winning and extremely popular “Breath of the Wild”. Starting today, May 12th, Nintendo Switch players can finally head back to the Kingdom of Hyrule with Tears of the Kingdom. And it is already clear that the wait should have been worth it for most gamers.

Nintendo advertises on its German website with “a world where your imagination knows no bounds”. The video game manufacturer promises “an epic adventure”. And these don’t seem to be empty promises, because the critics throw superlatives around when they speak of “The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom”.

Hyrule must be limitless above the clouds

The “Zelda” games have been captivating gamers since the 1980s. What began on the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) has grown into one of the most popular brands in the video game world over almost four decades. Now Hero Link embarks once again on an adventure of immense proportions in which he must rid the kingdom of chaos, fight countless monsters, solve many mysteries and find the missing Princess Zelda.

A noble task for Link, as he will have to travel a long way in a huge open game world, on which he will discover a lot and on which numerous dangers lurk. Luckily, he has plenty of game mechanics at his disposal for his bold venture, to explore sky islands high in the skies, travel the sprawling overworld or find his way around the gloomy underground.

With his ceiling jump, Link can take shortcuts and he rewinds objects, so to speak, using time reversal. For example, a previously fallen rock quickly becomes an elevator. Weapons and objects merge via a synthesis function. Last but not least, all kinds of objects can be assembled with the Ultra-Hand in order to create a makeshift raft or (air) vehicles of any kind. The possibilities to live out the mentioned creativity actually seem almost limitless.

Hot contender for the title “Game of the Year”

The critics are mostly extremely positive and shower the new game with praise despite minor inconsistencies. The German IT portal “Golem” In his conclusion he speaks of a “masterpiece” that “no Zelda fan should miss”. “Eurogamer.de” praises meanwhile among other things, that “Tears of the Kingdom” offers a “terrific sense of discovery in a fabulous world”. Loud “PC Games” have Nintendo “another unbelievably strong action-adventure delivered that clearly has game-of-the-year qualities.”

The US entertainment site “IGN” writes meanwhile from an “amazing sequel, to one of the greatest video games ever made”. And the British “Guardian” even says so, the video game offers “pure magic”. It’s “easy to forget how to have fun in adult life.” However, games like the new Zelda would help remind you that fun can be found anywhere if you have the right viewing angle.

At the Rating aggregator “Metacritic” “Tears of the Kingdom” currently has an incredible 96 out of 100 possible points – based on slightly less than 90 reviews. So many a fan will surely shed a tear of joy when he faces new adventures in Hyrule in “Tears of the Kingdom”.
