For a few years now, the German firm Volkswagen has maintained a certain suspense around its legendary Transporters and the six generations that have resulted from them, to the point of becoming one of the most legendary vehicles of the XXe century. While it is not so much about joining Woodstock today, it has been five years now that the expectation for a new all-electric combi has been growing. The first announcements date back to 2017 and now seem a long way off.
Finally, on his Twitter account, Herbert Diess officially announces at the beginning of the year 2022 that the one who is now known under the name of ID.BUZZ will see the light of day, and in series. Indeed, from March 9, this new minibus should be presented, before being produced in Germany as well as in the United States. This vehicle could be equipped with two electric motors and, above all, a 111 kWh battery which would offer it a comfortable range, less consuming than the 10 to 12 liters per 100 kilometers in mixed consumption of the first Combis.
Indeed, this version was the one presented in Detroit (United States) in 2017, when the ID.BUZZ was only a concept car, with a WLTP range announced by Volkswagen of around 450 kilometers, two engines (one at the front, another at the rear) developing a power of 369 horsepower and a 0 to 100 km / h in 5.1 seconds, which could already make it possible to travel pleasantly with good camping sessions to boot.
The question of price remains
However, AutoNews It is understood that this 2022-style ID.BUZZ could feature a 150 kW motor that would develop 201 horsepower and could travel 550 kilometers on a single charge. The battery capacity therefore remains just as uncertain, Electrek announces a potential pack of 80 kWh. Moreover, the small amount of technical details available makes it difficult to assess its price.
Always according to Electrek, it could however be between 40,000 and 60,000 euros, depending on the version, which, with a battery pack of 111 kWh, remains very decent. Nevertheless, with the various possibilities of interior design to come, the note could be saltier.
