After Adrien Quatennens, who admitted to having slapped his ex-campaign in December 2022, LFI deputy Hugo Prévost was removed from the party for acts of sexual violence. The organization co-founded by Hugo Prévost, the Student Union, calls for “justice to be done” on facts that occurred over the past four years.
The La France insoumise group in the National Assembly decided on Tuesday to exclude Isère MP Hugo Prevost for “serious acts of a sexual nature that could constitute criminal offenses”, according to a press release. These are facts “prior” to the election of the deputy for Isère. This 25-year-old former student unionist was elected for the first time in July against former Macronist minister Olivier Véran.
Facts known for several years
The group explains that it was contacted at the end of September by the Vigilance Committee against Sexist and Sexual Violence (CVSS) of LFI “concerning serious acts of a sexual nature which could be criminal offenses, prior” to the election of the deputy. After the hearing of the deputy and in view of the elements of the CVSS, the parliamentary group meeting on Tuesday “pronounced the exclusion of the deputy”, “in accordance with the principles of the charter signed” by the legislative candidates, committing to “defend the values feminists and to combat sexist and sexual violence.
He emphasizes that this decision can never “replace” a court decision and “reiterates his unfailing commitment to the fight against sexist and sexual violence”. Insoumise France was shaken at the end of 2022 by the affair of deputy Adrien Quatennens, convicted of domestic violence, who joined the benches of the National Assembly barely a month after his conviction. The LFI group had temporarily excluded him for four months, but several members of the movement had denounced his return to it.
The Student Union, which Hugo Prévost co-founded, reports for its part in a long press release having collected “testimonies” reporting “acts of moral and sexual harassment, patterns of predation, serious criminal acts reprehensible to sexual character. These facts “stretch over a period from 2020 to 2024 and would have continued after the departure of Hugo Prevost from the national team (…) in March”, adds the student organization which denounces “a desire for sexual control and women’s politics.
The organization adds that “the majority of the facts (…) had been known to some for several months or even several years.” She demands that “justice be done” and urges the MP to “resign from his mandate”.
