Nut nougat creams are a popular breakfast classic. With HazelHerz from “Die Höhle der Löwen” there are now two alternatives for environmentally conscious enjoyment: “Choco Nuss” and “Choco Nuss vegan”. BRIGITTE tested both for you.

Nobody would like to do without a delicious nut nougat cream. Often, however, is in the creamy spreads Palm oil for the cultivation of which numerous hectares of rainforest are cleared every year. This creates a bitter aftertaste. The nut nougat cream from HaselHerz promises a good alternative, because palm oil is not used in its production and organic ingredients are used. You can find out how it tastes in our test.

HaselHerz – what’s behind it?

Ebru Erkunt, founder of HaselHerz, has created an environmentally friendly alternative to conventional spreads. Your nut nougat cream is made from 100 percent certified organic ingredients, contains no palm oil, no white sugar and scores with a high nut content of 35 percent and coconut blossom sugar.

The cream is available in the “Choco Nuss” and “Choco Nuss vegan” versions and is not only suitable for breakfast toast, but also works well in milkshakes, smoothies or as a topping in muesli. Another plus point: HaselHerz supports the association Orangutans in Need eVand is committed to animal welfare and the preservation of natural habitats.

It was clear to me from the start that I would create a cream that did not contain palm oil or white sugar. This is how my heart project HaselHerz came about.

Founder Ebru Erkunt showed courage, fighting spirit and perseverance and applied for several years in a row at the VOX show “The Lion’s Den”until she got the chance to present her delicious invention to the lions. Your perseverance has paid off. Entrepreneur Ralf Dümmel was convinced of the good taste of the hazel heart cream and got involved as an investor.

With HaselHerz she was able to convince me immediately! SO DELICIOUS – I am so happy that I can accompany Ebru on her further journey.

HaselHerz promises that

  • 35 percent hazelnut content for an intense taste
  • 100 percent natural, certified organic ingredients
  • No palm oil, no white sugar
  • Gluten-free and available as a vegan variant
  • HaselHerz supports orangutans in need

HaselHerz put to the test

Feast on nut nougat cream that is produced in an environmentally friendly manner and supports animal welfare? BRIGITTE editors Natalja Fischer and Laura Kniedel were there immediately and got the spreads from Hazel heart tested. How do the organic creams taste and which one emerges as a favorite?

Natalja: No palm oil, organic ingredients also animal-friendly? That sounds worth supporting! The hazelnut nougat creams from HaselHerz are visually appealing. They come in 220g jars with a cute squirrel logo with a red heart. The dark brown nut nougat cream shimmers appetizingly through the glass.

First I test the non-vegan variant. When opened, it smells intensely of delicious chocolate. I spread the nut nougat cream on a toast, it is Spreadable, creamy and tastes intensely like nuts and chocolate with the first bite, delicious! The vegan version also tastes very good, but the consistency of the dairy-free choco cream is a bit tougher and more crumbly.

Laura: So far there has only been one true nut-nougat cream for me … However, this has a very low proportion of hazelnut (a mere 13%) and also contains palm oil and a high proportion of sugar. Absolute no-go, but so far there was no alternative in sight that could convince my palate. HaselHerz looks very promising in terms of the ingredients.

First I try the non-vegan variant. When I unscrew it, I get an intense smell of nuts and chocolate. The cream is lighter than expected, it shines and is also nice and creamy. In terms of taste, I’m surprised at first, because this nut nougat cream doesn’t have much in common with my secret favorite. It tastes different: nuttier, more intense and more substantial. After a few test spoons I realize – THAT’S AN ALTERNATIVE!

The vegan variant, on the other hand, unfortunately doesn’t convince me – the consistency is too crumbly for me. In addition, this cream is characterized by an unassignable aftertaste, which I do not like at all.

HaselHerz: The test result

Natalja: The Choco-Nut Cream from HaselHerz will definitely find a place on my breakfast table from now on. Not only does it taste good, it also scores points in terms of animal and environmental protection. I would recommend the alternative to every nut and nougat fan.

Laura: The non-vegan hazel heart cream has recently ended up as a topping in my morning porridge. But it is also very popular as a classic spread. It is highly recommended as an alternative!
