fun, news, tips… what else?

A new wave of Covid-19 is falling on France. Many departments are affected by the arrival of the BA.4 and BA.5 sub-variants. Here are those who are bearing the brunt of this seventh wave.

The Covid-19 has not disappeared, far from it. If the news has been monopolized by the legislative elections, the war in Ukraine and the inflation which is exploding the budget of the French, the Covid-19 is coming back to the charge. For several days, the contaminations have intensified and summer could well be placed under the sign of vigilance. According to figures provided by Public health France, as of June 20, the average number of cases recorded reached 46,146 daily contaminations. An increase of 49% compared to the previous week… France is particularly affected.

In details, nineteen departments oscillate between incidence rates of 500 and 1000 per 100,000 inhabitants. This is the case in Paris, in Hauts-de-Seine, Essone, Yvelines, Val-de-Marne, Val-d’Oise, Seine-et-Marne, Corrèze, Haute- Vienne, Loire-Atlantique, Haute-Garonne, Savoie, Cher, Aube, Haut-Rhin, Ardèche. The overseas departments are also concerned by this increase in Covid-19 contamination, in particular Guadeloupe and Martinique.

The BA.4 and BA.5 sub-variants at the origin of the new wave?

The BA.4 and BA.5 sub-variants would be the cause of this increase in France. From the Omicron family, they are suspected of increasing contamination in several European countries. Discovered in South Africa between December 2021 and January 2022, the BA.4 sub-variant is now the majority in the country. The BA.5, meanwhile, has gained ground in Portugal, as in the rest of Europe since the beginning of the year.

The end of sanitary measures in transport, at work or in public places could have contributed to this increase in cases. For the time being, the government does not plan to extend the exit from the state of emergency, supposed to take place on July 31. This system makes it possible to put in place exceptional measures such as the obligation to wear a mask or the use of a health pass.
