the list of new products arriving

Google has rolled out the third beta of Android 15, its new operating system which will arrive in a few months. Enough to test some new features with users, but also with developers.

The Android 15 logo

The development of Android 15 continues at Google, a few months before the arrival of the operating system. It’s time for Beta 3 with some changes to the program, listed by our colleagues at 9to5Google. An important step, since it is finally the moment of the “Platform Stability“. Namely, a fairly stable version compared to the previous ones.

How to install Android 15 Beta 3?

Be careful before installing the latest Android beta: you may encounter technical problems, although this version is more reliable than previous ones. The beta program and all installation steps are available on the Google website. However, there remains one restriction: compatible devices. Here are the smartphones and tablets compatible with Android 15 Beta 3:

Changes in Android settings

In addition to additional features, Android is working on making the settings menus more convenient. Among the small changes made, we find the removal of the indication “speakers and screens» in the device manager on which you can play music or view a video. Another example: the button to deactivate the Circle to Search function is more prominent.

Change your wallpaper on the Pixel Fold

Now on the Pixel Fold, you can preview both the internal screen and the external screen when changing the home screen wallpaper and lock screen wallpaper. Enough to see in advance what a wallpaper that is not framed in the same way on the two screens will look like.

We can expect this change to eventually arrive on other folding smartphones.

Access all volume settings whether you like it or not

Until now, when you changed the volume of your device, you could independently change media, calls, ringtone, notifications and alarms.

This is still the case, except that now you can no longer hide them and only adjust the main volume. Google has chosen to necessarily display all the different volumes.

Long app names

In the Pixel Launcher settings, it is now possible to display the full names of applications that are too long to display entirely.

Instead of being cut off, they are displayed on two lines. This is a new option, which can be activated or not.

Other new features of Android 15

In addition to purely ergonomic changes, Google is implementing some new features.

Adaptive sleep

In the sleep settings, Android has added a new option, namely adaptive sleep, which “automatically turns off your screen if you are not using your device“.

We don’t know how it works, especially since it seems to go hand in hand with the sleep delay that we define. Presumably the phone checks whether you’re looking at it or not before going to sleep.

Screenshot preview changes (a little)

When you take a screenshot on Android, the preview of said capture is displayed at the bottom left of the screen, with buttons, for example, to share or annotate this image.

In Android 15 Beta 3, these buttons have been moved: they are no longer to the right of the preview, but below.

Logging into your accounts will be even faster

Currently, Android allows you to use a password manager, like Google’s. When you fill in a field with a username and password, it is activated and asks you to fill in the information on your own. You simply have to identify yourself, with your fingerprint, facial recognition or PIN code.

In Beta 3, it will be even faster as we can read on the Android blog: a button has been removed, which means that the connection is literally done in one click. It will still be possible to see the available accounts and use a password, a passkey or the connection protocol via Google.
