20 in one go: Amazon has announced a number of new cast members for the new "The Lord of the Rings" series.

The cast of the new "The Lord of the Rings" series from Amazon Prime Video is growing and growing: The streaming provider has announced 20 new names that will be featured in the series adaptation – a colorful mix of established and emerging actors five different countries.

New on board are: Cynthia Addai-Robinson ("The Accountant"), Maxim Baldry, Ian Blackburn, Kip Chapman, Anthony Crum, Maxine Cunliffe, Trystan Gravelle, Sir Lenny Henry, Thusitha Jayasundera, Fabian McCallum, Simon Merrells ("Good Omens "), Geoff Morrell, Peter Mullan (" Ozark "), Lloyd Owen, Augustus Prew (" Kick-Ass 2 "), Peter Tait, Alex Tarrant, Leon Wadham, Benjamin Walker and Sara Zwangobani.

Previously known was the main cast consisting of Robert Aramayo, Owain Arthur, Nazanin Boniadi, Tom Budge, Morfydd Clark, Ismael Cruz Córdova, Ema Horvath, Markella Kavenagh, Joseph Mawle, Tyroe Muhafidin, Sophia Nomvete, Megan Richards, Dylan Smith, Charlie Vickers and Daniel Weyman.

Filming has already started

Filming for the series should have started in February. But, as with so many productions, the corona pandemic thwarted these plans. In July, the government in New Zealand eased the corona measures and filming has been in full swing since then.

The "Lord of the Rings" series adaptation by J.R.R. Tolkien's (1892-1973) legendary fantasy novels does not yet have an official name. It is just as unclear which main plot will take center stage within the Second Age of Middle-earth spanning several thousand years. The series starts before Tolkien's "The Companions".
