While most “Lord of the Rings” fans know Galadriel’s husband as Celeborn, he has another name in Elvish that is embarrassing.
- Celeborn sounds like a normal name by Tolkien standards. But the elf’s true name is different.
- Now a cult meme for fans, Galadriel’s husband goes by the name Teleporno in Elvish.
- The name may sound primarily like an adult TV program, but it also has a deeper meaning.
In Tolkien’s world, many characters have multiple names. For example, in Elvish, Gandalf goes by the name Mithrandir and his Maia name is Olórin. While Gandalf’s names are comparatively easy to pronounce and, above all, sonorous, an elf is not quite as blessed…
We’re talking about Teleporn. That doesn’t mean anything to you? You may know him as Celeborn, portrayed by Marton Csokas in The Lord of the Rings trilogy.
Teleporno: The meaning behind the name
The name Teleporno comes from the Elvish language Quenya and means the silver high one. The name Celeborn is Sindarin, another elven language, and means High silver or Silver tree. It signals the elves’ closeness to nature, which is particularly appropriate for Celeborn.
Together with Galadriel (Cate Blanchett in the films, Morfydd Clark in “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power”), Celeborn rules the woodland kingdom of Lothlórien. Surrounded by shiny silver trees, the Silver High is certainly in good company.
Teleporno alias Celeborn will also appear in the upcoming “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” season. Calam Lynch has been confirmed as the actor. We know the actor from “Bridgerton” and “Black Beauty”.
Fans find the name to shoot!
On the Internet, Tolkien fans naturally find the name Teleporno funny and have created numerous memes about the character. You can find one or two good memes on Reddit. This also applies to Instagram or other social media channels.
Teleporno is not the only funny name in Tolkien’s works. Also, Frodo should actually have a different name, one that is much more amusing than Frodo Baggins is.
