Daedalic Entertainment and NACON have just formalized a final release date for The Lord of the Rings: Gollum ! The game will be released on PC and consoles (PlayStation4, PlayStation5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S) September 1, 2022 ! Very good news for fans of the universe imagined by Tolkien.
The Lord of the Rings: Gollum differs from everything that has been done on the franchise in the past, because it will offer us to embody Sméagol, the fundamentally two-headed character of the trilogy. We will therefore have to put ourselves in the shoes of this notorious anti-hero, and infiltrate the fortresses of Mordor, during what corresponds chronologically to the first chapters of The Fellowship of the Ring.
The game renders with great skill the personality disorders of Gollum, since the player will have to deal with the two “faces” of the character. He can let Sméagol control the quieter phases of the game, or on the contrary bring out the more evil Gollum side, to go and dent a few orcs if discretion has failed.
Lord of the Rings fans will appreciate the detail tuned to certain Middle-earth locations. Journey through the Misty Mountains, dive into the depths of Barad-Dûr or even tree climbing in the elven forests; there’s going to be landscape to explore, at the helm of one of the most charismatic yet also hateful characters in the entire trilogy. And you can forget the pints of warm brunettes at the Hobbits; the game, very dark, turns to the most inhospitable places of Middle-earth.
