- A new making-of fuels anticipation for Amazon’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.
- The series makers explain why the Second Age is so exciting and why it needs a new group of companions.
- A new Lord of the Rings special has also been released that goes even deeper behind the scenes.
The first season of “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” will start streaming on Amazon Prime Video on September 2, 2022. The new fantasy series is a prequel to Peter Jackson’s “The Lord of the Rings” films. The series takes place in the Second Age of Middle-earth, more than 3000 years before the movies.
In a new making-of, showrunners JD Payne and Patrick McKay explain why they think the Second Age has stories worth telling. Above all, they explain that they have put together a new community, because what would a Tolkien story be without a group of companions?
Galadriel actress Morfydd Clark also has his say. She succeeds Cate Blanchett, who played the role in The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit movies. Clark isn’t alone, as other characters from the films are also returning – like Elrond.
But the series also brings to life characters from Tolkien’s Legendarium that we haven’t seen in a movie or series before. The US magazine Entertainment Weekly also published a special about the characters!
