the Mac Mini will skip the M3 chip, and that’s not bad

Apple will obviously skip an M3 version of its Mac Mini, ultimately offering a version with an M4 chip by early 2025 at the latest.

The Mac Mini is secretly our favorite Apple machine at Frandroid. A concentrate of power in a compact case, this is a mini-PC that we recommend with our eyes closed.

The M2 version of the machine convinced us last year with an unbeatable performance/price ratio. But it seems that Apple is still waiting before offering a new iteration of its Mac Mini, which should not benefit from the M3 chip this year.

A Mac Mini M4 later this year

It’s in his famous Power On newsletter (via MacRumors) that journalist Mark Gurman shared his expectations for the Mac Mini this year. Last week, the Apple specialist had already drawn up the manufacturer’s plans until 2025 for its M4 chip.

He thus completes his analysis by affirming that Apple will skip the M3 chip for its Mac Mini this year, to offer a new version of its machine with M4 chip “between the end of 2024 and the beginning of 2025”.

Apple is adopting the same strategy as for its iMac, which skipped the M2 chip to offer an M3 model last year and take advantage of the latest developments in terms of GPU power.

With the M4 chip, the Mac Mini should be ready for AI, which seems to be the manufacturer’s emphasis on this future architecture.
