The magazine “L’Équipe” is launching a major amateur photo contest

INTERVIEW

No matter the sport or the competition, whether you are photographing Stade Rennais, your little sister playing football or a stranger dancing in the street, your shot could be published in The Team. The magazine is launching a major photo contest, open to anyone aged 15 or over. The competition is free and the photos can be taken with both reflex cameras and smartphones. This is the magazine’s second photo competition, following the 2021 launch of the Richard Martin Professional Prize.

With this new amateur contest, The Team hopes to receive many participations, as explained to Europe 1 Géraldine Catalano, editor-in-chief of the magazine. “The idea was to open this competition to as many people as possible, so as to break down the psychological barriers that may exist to the idea of tackling the subject of sport, which can be intimidating for an amateur photographer”, she tells our microphone. “The idea is also to encourage vocations, because you don’t have to be a professional photographer to be keen on photography, have a certain science of framing, be interested in images and be passionate sport.”

A competition that is part of the magazine’s DNA

Three categories will be rewarded: action, portrait and “family”. For this last category, you must be related to the person photographed. The jury will be made up of professionals from The Teamphotography, a magazine subscriber, a personality from the world of culture and a media personality.

The winners of the competition will leave with a smartphone, a one-day masterclass in the magazine’s photo department and the publication of the photos in the magazine of The Team next November. Because this competition echoes the identity of the magazine, which is very focused on sports photography and iconography.

“We have dedicated sections, we interview photographers very regularly, we produce a lot of photo subjects, which is a rarity in magazines today”, reminds Europe 1 Géraldine Catalano.” We are lucky to be able to devote a lot pages of sports iconography. We also have an archive of more than 12 million images. It’s an opportunity and a culture that we want to maintain over the years, generations and of course with our readers.”

Registration is done on the website of The Teamfrom now until September 30, 2022.
