the makeup trend that reinvents contouring

Discover this new contouring technique without bronzer which promises a more natural result than contouring à la Kim Kardashian.

When it comes to beauty and make-up, working on the complexion is quite simply THE base. There is, in fact, no pretty eye or mouth make-up without a perfect correction of the complexion which eliminates the redness and signs of fatigue that affect our good looks. And this is all the more true since the stars have elevated this essential step of makeup to the level of an art with techniques that are increasingly beautifying the complexion. Contouring supported and ultra sculpting Kim Kardashian way which is able to radically transform the face, method of strobing which relies on the illuminating power of the highlighter to reveal a perfect fresh complexion or even blush draping which reproduces a nice sculpting flush on the cheekbones: there is no shortage of make-up techniques stuck to the stars to highlight our face and display a radiant mine. If you still haven't found the right one to enhance your complexion, you can now try a new contouring method acclaimed by celebrities: the cheek craving.

What is cheek carving?

Invented by star makeup artist Nam Vo, to whom beautiful model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley (among others) owes her skilfully sculpted complexion with delicate light and shadow, the cheek carving is quite simply a new contouring method that promises a more subtle result than the one popularized by Kim Kardashian. If you have resisted contouring until then because you considered its bluffing effect unnatural, it's a safe bet that makeup cheek carving or ultimately the contouring technique you were waiting for to give in to it. Literally translating to “sculpture of the cheeks”, the technique of cheek carving contouring invites you to sculpt your face with makeup by creating a contrast that structures the face (like any contouring), but it does so in a more targeted way (by applying makeup only to the cheeks ) and much more subtle than the classic bronzer contouring, because it favors the addition of a shade of concealer lighter than the skin tone to work the complexion rather than a darker shade of bronzer. As a result, a contouring makeup with a natural effect that manages to sublimate the features of the face without risking the orange complexion à la Donald Trump that draw some bronzing powders nor the blatant unsightly demarcations which are rather improbable traces when the method of contouring is not well mastered.

Lightweight contouring that suits all faces regardless of their morphology and easily adapts to all skin tones, makeup cheek carving has everything to enhance us without risking missteps.

How to do cheek carving makeup?

For a successful complexion makeup cheek carving, you will only need a few products. First, equip yourself with a concealer one to two times lighter than the shade of your skin tone or your usual foundation. The idea is to use the concealer to sculpt your cheeks in a more natural way than by applying a bronzer that darkens the color of the skin in order to structure the facial features in a subtle way. Also have several makeup brushes at your disposal, as well as an illuminating powder to perfect your makeup.

  • Start by sculpting the hollows of your cheeks with the clear concealer, drawing a clean line of the product from the tragus of the ears down to the corners of the lips. Do it using a flat brush that allows an ultra targeted application and draw a clean line that loses in intensity as the application, that is to say as and the line meets the corner of the lips.
  • Then blend the line drawn with the concealer as far as possible to the underside of the cheekbones, using a clean brush, to properly blend the product into the skin.
  • To finish, take a new brush and use it to apply your illuminating powder in a touch of radiance on the top of the cheekbones to illuminate the makeup, even better blend the contour of the contour and finish sculpting your cheeks by emphasizing a little more the features of your face.
