Time flies when you’re having fun! The best example of this is “The Mandalorian” season 3, because on the one hand the new episodes on Disney+ have just started, at the same time we are already halfway through the season and are getting closer and closer to the next finale. But when, if at all, will Mando and Grogu continue?

Disney+ hasn’t ordered season 4 of “The Mandalorian” yet, but series creator Jan Favreau makes no secret of the fact that he’s already working on season 4, so no one expects a sudden cancellation. At the same time, the “Star Wars” universe is growing with more and more series, which could make the next Mando adventures even more distant.

I have a lot of fun and love hanging out with Dave [Filoni] to work with and I love how the characters develop over time. I also love that there are now other stories told in the same time span, like “Ahsoka” and “Skeleton Crew.”

For Favreau, “Ahsoka” and “Skeleton Crew” expand the larger story of the “Mandalorian” universe, as he explains in an interview with EW. These numerous new or well-known characters offer more possibilities, but at the same time all series must also be carefully planned and coordinated.

Now I feel like there’s a bigger context that I can understand. Because we knew what was after [“The Mandalorian”] happened, and we knew what happened before. And there’s a ton of additional stories told outside of what’s now considered official canon but dear to the hearts of fans who’ve been around for decades. And we want to take all of that into account.

So it could be that “The Mandalorian” season 4 awaits us in 2025 or even later, but of course Mando and Grogu could appear in other series before that, like they once did in “The Book of Boba Fett”.

When asked if Favreau already had a clear ending in mind for The Mandalorian, the director and screenwriter didn’t give a clear answer. So far, however, it doesn’t look like he has a concrete ending planned. As long as he enjoys the series, he will continue to work on it.

I don’t see why I shouldn’t be enjoying it anymore, especially when the audience is rooting for the characters. That feels like a really comfortable moment. And I love this format of telling one chapter at a time and leaving the audience guessing but also meeting certain expectations.

Jon Favreau

This is good news for all The Mandalorian fans! Season 3’s declining ratings alone might be a concern, but viewership is still in a good range even now. So if interest in the series doesn’t wane, Disney+ is sure to keep it coming.
