In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Jon Favreau revealed that the Star Wars series “The Mandalorian” will continue to be broadcast as long as he enjoys writing it.
How many seasons are planned for The Mandalorian? In the world of television, it is common that at the time of its launch, a series is designed in outline until its conclusion, thus allowing its creator to know how many seasons it will need to tell its story.
But as far as the Star Wars series is concerned, no end seems planned at the moment. Its creator Jon Favreau thus revealed to our colleagues fromEntertainment Weekly that the chronology of the saga offers him great freedom, the series taking place in a period of several decades spanning between the end of Return of the Jedi (Episode VI) and The Force Awakens (VII).
Having to tell a story while taking into account the other stories of this chronological period is sometimes part of the job of the contortionist: “We know what happens after the series, and what happened before, not to mention all those stories that do not belong to the official canon of the saga, but which have been very much appreciated by fans for several decades. So you have to take all that into account.”

Delighted to have been offered the opportunity to write this Star Wars series, Jon Favreau does not intend to consider an end as long as he takes pleasure in working on it. Especially since the format of a television series offers its share of advantages over cinema, as explained:
It’s really a great format, and you start to appreciate having such a team around you, when for each film you shoot you have to compose a new one. But with Mandalorian, we’re lucky to have this great group of talented people that we’re lucky enough to work with every year.
