  • “The Mandalorian” season 3 will change the “Star Wars” saga retrospectively.
  • We finally learn who saved Grogu during Order 66. Whoever it was, it will raise questions.
  • A popular fan theory is the return of Mace Windu. Also, Anakin himself may have “saved” Grogu by showing mercy.

On March 1, 2023, “The Mandalorian” season 3 will start streaming on Disney +. The new episodes finally shed light on who saved Grogu, formerly known as Baby Yoda, during Order 66. At least that’s what the trailer for “The Mandalorian” season 3 suggests.

We see another flashback to Order 66, which takes place more than 20 years before “The Mandalorian” in the “Star Wars” chronology. Already in “The Book of Boba Fett” there was a short flashback in which we learned that Grogu was present in the Jedi Temple during Order 66.

Now the mystery of who saved Grogu during the massacre seems to be solved – and it will rewrite the entire “Star Wars” saga. Once upon a time, there were hardly any survivors of Order 66. Anakin Skywalker and the Emperor made sure of that. But in recent years, new series, video games, and other media have featured increasing numbers of Jedi survivors.

Star Wars: Who Saved Grogu During Order 66?

Rumor has it that Mace Windu survived his battle with the Emperor in Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith and eventually rescued Grogu and possibly other younglings. This sounds like a fan fever dream. It would also raise some questions as to why Mace Windu didn’t play a role afterwards.

But a return from Samuel L. Jackson would certainly be cool. Of course, it could be that Windu actually survived and saves the younglings, but then sacrifices himself in the process. Thus, no logic gaps would be opened, but whether such a brief reunion with Mace Windu will satisfy the fans is another matter.

Also in the realm of possibility is a completely new Jedi that we haven’t seen yet. But as more and more Jedi are introduced who survive Order 66, this Jedi genocide becomes less and less relevant. So it will most likely be a character that we already know.

Fan favorites like Master Yoda, Obi-Wan Kenobi or Kanan Jarrus are in the room. However, none of these characters later mentioned Grogu, which would raise many questions in the context of the entire saga. But who will most definitely be part of the flashbacks in “The Mandalorian” Season 3 is Anakin Skywalker.

The Mandalorian: Did Anakin Skywalker Save Grogu?

Hayden Christensen made his comeback as Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader in Obi-Wan Kenobi. He should also be seen again in “Ahsoka”. A return in “The Mandalorian” would certainly also be possible. Especially since Order 66 wouldn’t work without Anakin as the main perpetrator of the massacre.

We already see in the trailer how a door is brutally opened. Possibly with a lightsaber. So that can only really have been Anakin. But is he only shown as a youngling-slaying Sith Lord in The Mandalorian, or can his good side pull off one last feat?

Some theories posit that no Jedi will save Grogu, but instead show mercy to Anakin himself. Why this happens and how Anakin and Darth Vader’s inner conflict affects this decision is, of course, the biggest mystery here.

It would shed new light on Anakin/Vader. A light that once again re-presents Order 66 in the retrospective. We are excited to see what we will see from March 1st, 2023. This year we are also expecting more “Star Wars” releases!
