The Mandalorian’s new starship has a special story

We see the bounty hunter at the controls of a brand new ship in the first episode of season 3 of The Mandalorian. This is a special ship, which we have already seen in the universe Star Wars.

Gone is the Razor Crest, the Mandalorian is now piloting an N-1 Starfighter. After the destruction of his mythical ship at the end of season 2, we find Din Djarin at the controls of a brand new car, from the very beginning of season 3 of The Mandalorian.

To see the new season of The Mandalorian, you need to subscribe. Disney+ is available in France on the Disney+ website with a one-year subscription at €89.99 or €8.99 per month; or in the Canal+ offers from €19.90 per month.

This brand new vehicle saves the skin of several unfortunates from the start of the episode, but it is not its usefulness in combat that attracts attention. Keen-eyed fans are sure to see that this is an already well-known model in the cinematic saga – the kind of ship that doesn’t go unnoticed.

Season 3 of The Mandalorianthe flagship series of the universe Star Wars, airs from March 1, 2023 on Disney+ one episode per week. If you haven’t seen the first one yet, don’t go further in the article: it contains spoilers on the course of the plot.

Beware of story spoilers!

What is the Mandalorian’s new ship?

The new ship is none other than an N-1 Starfighter from Naboo, the home planet of Senator Padmé Amidala, one of the main heroines of the prelogy Star Wars. It’s also in episode I, The Phantom Menacethat we see for the first time these aircraft at work during the defense of the planet.

In this movie, Anakin Skywalker drives one with some skill and takes part in a space battle against the armed forces of the Trade Federation. He uses his ship to destroy the flagship of the opposing force, and thus ends the blockade of Naboo.

So it’s not just any ship. N-1s were used by the royal special forces of Naboo, and are considered some of the most agile and well-designed starships in the galaxy. They could even jump into hyperspace without the need for an external dock. Real racing beasts.

How does Mando get his hands on it?

But all this does not explain how the Mandalorian finds himself at the helm of an N-1 Starfighter. For the first two seasons of the show, Din Djarin rode the iconic Razor Crest. But after his brutal destruction by Moff Gideon at the end of Season 2, the bounty hunter was forced to move on foot – which, when you have to move from one planet to another, is not what there is more convenient.

It’s in The Boba Fett Book, a series thought of as a kind of intermediate season, that we learn how the mercenary got his hands on his new machine. While on Tatooine, he finds his friend, the mechanic Peli Motto, who explains to him that she has found a perfect ship for him: the famous N-1. No more scrambling.

At first, the bounty hunter is wary: the ship is small, old, and it’s not at all what he asked for. But the mechanic manages to make him change his mind: the ship is discreet, powerful, and above all, given that it dates from the pre-imperial era, it is not registered anywhere. Handy for a bounty hunter.

That’s not all. When Din Djarin and Peli Motto refurbish the ship, the mechanic has a surprise in store for him. The latter transforms the cockpit intended for the astrodroids, at the rear of the vehicle, into a covered seat that can accommodate an additional small person – perfectly designed for Grogu. What a delicate attention!
