the manufacturer’s first electric car will use Apple CarPlay

The official launch of Xiaomi’s first car is imminent, but before that, we now know a little more about it. According to a certification body, this will be compatible with Apple CarPlay.

Xiaomi has been preparing an electric car for several years now, and it has already been seen on the roads in China. If information about this vehicle is thin, SIG, a certification body has finally revealed several features that we can expect on this “MS11”, its provisional name.

According to the certification body, which ensures the conformity of new products as well as their registration on the market, the car will be compatible with Bluetooth 5.2and will support radio and USB Media functionalities. So far, nothing surprising, but what happens next might surprise you.

The Xiaomi car would be Apple CarPlay compatible

According to the certification body, Xiaomi’s electric car would support Apple CarPlay, the American manufacturer’s technology which allows you to connect an iPhone to a car’s infotainment screen. It is essentially aboutan interface allowing you to control many applications on your smartphone directly on the screen of your carrather than having to hold it in your hand.

For example, when making a phone call, the car’s built-in speakers and microphone handle the sound. When CarPlay is connected, the call is handled the same way. However, your car’s infotainment screen displays a layout that resembles your iPhone’s phone app. Your iPhone’s contacts, favorites, recent calls, and voicemails all appear on the infotainment screen. You can also use the voice assistant Siri when your phone is connected via CarPlay, allowing you to use the system hands-free.

Fortunately, it seems that Xiaomi’s car is not only compatible with the company’s smartphones. The certification body does not refer to Android Auto, the CarPlay alternative, nor Android Automotive, Google’s independent operating system. However, there is no doubt that one of them will eventually arrive in the vehicle.

Finally, the certification body mentions a Qualcomm chip, which could well be the brains of the car. As a reminder, Xiaomi would also be working on its own operating system, MIOS, which would first arrive in its vehicle before being deployed more widely in its smartphones over the next few years.
