Two days after the big demonstration organized by the unions against the pension reform, several youth associations called for a parade this Saturday in Paris. A march in which La France insoumise and in particular Jean-Luc Mélenchon will participate. Is the bet risky for the rebellious leader?

Without the contribution of the unions, which succeeded in bringing together between one and two million people in the streets last Thursday, it will be difficult to bring together more people for La France insoumise which is organizing a march against the pension reform this Saturday. For the political party, this new mobilization is in no way a desire to recover the head of the protest. “All of this converges,” says Jean-Luc Mélenchon, for whom this Saturday’s demonstration should not be compared to that of last Thursday.

A political issue

France insubordinate hopes despite everything to gather a maximum of demonstrators to compose a consequent procession. For this, the party is counting on the employees who were unable to strike two days ago to swell the ranks of the demonstrators. The other challenge for Jean-Luc Mélenchon will be to stand alongside young people, an electorate that is favorable to him since 34% of 25-34 year olds and 31% of 18-24 year olds voted for him in the last election. presidential election last April.

This new event naturally presents a political challenge: that of establishing itself as the first formation opposed to pension reform. On the other side of the political spectrum, the National Rally does not rule out one day coming to demonstrate, but Marine Le Pen favors the parliamentary fight at this stage. An asset for La France insoumise in the event of crowds in the street, but which could also turn against it if overflows were to take place in the procession.
