The Marvel MMORPG developed by Daybreak Games (DC Universe Online) has been canceled

Games Marvel are on the rise in recent years, and no doubt that won’t stop any time soon, at least not as long as the popularity of the MCU continues to grow. But not all projects will necessarily reach the end of their development, like the Marvel MMO entrusted to Daybreak Games (famous for DC Universe Online), which has just been canceled.

Too expensive a project

Last November, we learned that the studio was tackling a major project with the construction of a Marvel MMO, which seemed to be a logical continuation for the team which had done the same with DC Comics.

However, EG7, which owns the studio, today announced that the project will never see the light of day following a reassessment of development costs :

EG7 today announced the end of development of the Marvel project at Daybreak Games. Based on the reassessment of development risk, size of investment and long-term strategy of the group’s product portfolio, the board decided to change development priorities and reallocate resources within the group, to focus on long-term project solutions. The company planned to invest more than SEK 500 million [plus de 47 millions d’euros] in the Marvel Project over the next three years. »

Instead of this Marvel MMO, the group wants to invest in more accessible, smaller projects, such as updates to DC Universe Online Where from The Lord of Rings Online, while developing its own licenses. In short, one less Marvel game to watch.
