The question is in any case on the government’s table. The Health Defense Council is looking into the subject this Wednesday, November 3. In question : the Covid-19 epidemic is on the rise in certain French regions.
According to the last epidemiological point from Public Health France, dated November 2, “the resumption of viral circulation has been confirmed in metropolitan France, with a further increase in the incidence rate” in 60 departments, as reported Covid Tracker. These territories exceed the alert threshold, set at 50 per 100,000 inhabitants.

60 departments in danger
Among them, we find Ain, Maine-et-Loire, Bouche-du-Rhône, Alpes-de-Haute-Provence but also Haute Corse and Île-de-France. In general, the situation is deteriorating almost everywhere, especially in a large south-eastern and north-western quarter of the country.
If the situation continues, schools will be subject to strict criteria. As a reminder, if the number of cases exceeds 50 per 100,000 inhabitants for five days, level 2 (yellow) of the health protocol will be applied, making the wearing of a mask compulsory in primary schools, among other things. “There are strict criteria, five days below the alert threshold to remain at level 1. There we have largely passed above, so the government must activate level 2”, says Philippe Amouyel, epidemiologist and professor of public health at Lille University Hospital, Parisian.
The government’s decision
Also according to Le Parisien, the French government will communicate on Thursday, November 4 which departments are concerned by the return of the mask. Moreover, according to our colleagues from Figaro, the Ministry of National Education would await the decision of the Health Defense Council to detail all the measures to be applied.
