In "The Masked Singer" Thore Schölermann turned out to be the monstronaut. In the interview, he reveals why he is already missing his costume.

Two other stars were exposed on Tuesday evening (March 16) on "The Masked Singer". Under the monstronaut costume was – as many suspected – presenter Thore Schölermann (36, "The Voice of Germany"). In an interview with the news agency spot on news, the TV star reveals why he is already missing his costume, how he fooled his colleagues at ProSieben and which remaining costume he is indulging in victory.

On Tuesday, viewers voted you out of the show. How are you doing the morning after?

Thore Schölermann: I couldn't sleep well. These weeks were crazy: to be able to let the pig out under the mask and that nobody knew who I am … that had something very liberating. For me, more than just the show is over. I already miss the monstronaut because I can no longer break things all the time (laughs). Now normal life begins again. Apart from that, I never thought I'd be on stage as a fictional character next to Guildo Horn.

They declared that they were happy to not be in the finale of "The Masked Singer" as a "non-singer". Why?

Schölermann: "The Masked Singer" isn't about being a good singer, it's about putting on a good show. I lived that way. But of course it spoke against everything I do on television, for example on "The Voice of Germany". It's about voice, performance and incredibly good singers. With "The Masked Singer" I delivered exactly the opposite and made it to the semifinals with my croaky voice. So it was just the right moment to say, "It was fun so far and now I'm handing over – Monstronaut out."

What did you learn from your participation?

Schölermann: I noticed once again what an art it is to touch with your voice and I have even more respect for the people I present on "The Voice of Germany" – because I've seen how difficult it is . It all looks so easy, but it really is an art and a gift. I've been on stage for 20 years, but I've never been so excited, despite the mask. I was so insecure: Singing, memorizing the text, memorizing the choreography, barely breathing, wearing the heavy costume … I've reached my limits.

How difficult was it to remain anonymous as a ProSieben star?

Schölermann: Very difficult! A lot of people know my voice and a lot of colleagues are on site in the studio. I had to lie to her because we all deal with the format through ProSieben. I've been mistaken for one of the celebs under the masks for years. This year I said, "Yeah, maybe I'll be the unicorn." When I wasn't the unicorn, the surprise was big!

Did you have a hard time playing the rascal as a monstronaut?

Schölermann: No, that was exactly my thing. I really got into it and people were almost scared when I got into the studio (laughs). I was allowed to do what I wanted. It was a childhood dream, I could be the little fool again!

After your exposure, you announced that you wanted to officially end your music career. But she has only just started …

Schölermann: Well, as a monstronaut I have now ended my career. Who knows what's coming? As soon as there is a stage and a microphone somewhere, I take it and try to do something with it.

Ruth Moschner also attested that you were "terrific" as a singer and performer. Perhaps you will soon no longer appear as a moderator, but as a talent for "The Voice of Germany"?

Schölermann: No, definitely not. I will never be able to compete with anyone on "The Voice of Germany".

The grand finale of "The Masked Singer" next week will feature turtles, flamingos, leopards and dinosaurs. Do you have a theory who is among the remaining costumes?

Schölermann: I always guessed myself and had a faint idea who might be in the dinosaur. If that's true, I would give the person victory very much because I like them a lot and we got along well through the masks.
