The Matignon website announces the resignation of the government… by mistake

The government website posted on the morning of this Saturday, May 14, a page announcing the resignation of the government of Jean Castex. An error that occurred “due to technical problems”, insisted Matignon.

This error comes as the suspense mounts before the resignation of the government which is not expected before Monday, according to the Prime Minister’s entourage.

Jean Castex was indeed to go to the Vatican on Sunday for the canonization of three French people, including Charles de Foucauld, and to meet Pope Francis. But he had to give it up because the head of state is moving to Abu Dhabi and the two chief executives cannot be outside the territory at the same time.

The web page displayed by mistake on government.fr is “regularly used in the event of a redesign. It’s been prepared for a while now. It’s a ghost page that came up in Google searches. The government information service has contacted the search engine to rectify,” Matignon told AFP.

A reshuffle planned for the start of the week

“Since the report, the page has been dereferenced and unpublished. Only press releases are authentic. There is no reshuffle planned to our knowledge today”, concluded the entourage of the Prime Minister.

Emmanuel Macron will travel to Abu Dhabi on Sunday to pay tribute to the President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al-Nahyan, who died Friday at the age of 74.

The appointment of a new Prime Minister, followed by that of the government, is expected at the beginning of the week.
