the Medef welcomes the responsible and pragmatic decisions of the government

The Medef on Tuesday welcomed “the pragmatic and responsible decisions” taken by the government to reform the pension system, while remaining “opposed to the principle of a senior index” which will oblige companies to publish the share of their elderly employees.

Ensuring the future of this pillar of the country’s social model, while maintaining the purchasing power of assets and pensions, necessarily leads to working longer, says the first French employers’ organization in a press release.

In this respect, the raising of the starting age to 64 complete with an acceleration of the extension, already planned, of the contribution period, is essential, argues the Medef.

Companies will play their role and are ready to mobilize for the employment of seniors, says the organization which remains however opposed to the principle of a senior index.

An index will be created on the position of employees at the end of their career. This index will be simple. It will be public. It will make it possible to promote good practices and denounce bad ones, argued Elisabeth Borne. This index must be implemented this year in companies with more than 1,000 employees and in those with more than 300 employees in 2024.

For the Medef, it should be constructed from indicators that companies can control (rate of access to training, number of mid-career medical visits, etc.), the terms of which would be negotiated by branch or by company, according to the press release.

On professional wear and tear, the employers’ organization considers the reform project to be balanced, while the increase in the minimum pension is for the Medef a fair measure which rewards work, but which must be calibrated in order to maintain the gap between incomes labor and retirement benefits.
