The Mercedes EQE dons its tracksuit with AMG

AMG, the sports branch of Mercedes, has looked at the EQE, the electric little sister of the EQS limousine. As a result, the EQE 43 4MATIC and EQE 53 4MATIC+, both with all-wheel drive, promise to put the emphasis on performance.

Presented at the last mobility fair (IAA Mobility), which was held in Munich in September 2021, the Mercedes EQE is the electric counterpart of the E-Class sedan.

This little sister of the EQS – future rival of the Tesla Model S – passed into the hands of AMG, the sports wizard of the brand with the star. As a result, two versions of the EQE are available: the 43 4MATIC and the 53 4MATIC+.

Our two EQE AMGs each have two permanent magnet synchronous electric motors – one per axle – whose power ranges from 350 kW (475 hp) for the first version to 460 kW (625 hp) for the second. The German manufacturer specifies that the power of the EQE 53 4MATIC+ can reach 505 kW (685 hp) via the optional Dynamic Plus pack integrating the Boost function. The torque oscillates between 858 and 1000 Nm. As for the maximum speeds, they range from 210 to 240 km/h depending on the version chosen.

With a useful capacity of 90.6 kWh (ten modules housing 360 cells), the battery pack is identical to that of the “entry level” EQS. In this way, the range varies from 462 to 533 km (WLTP cycles) for the EQE 43 4MATIC, against 444 to 518 km for the EQE 53 4MATIC+.

Depending on the battery charge level, the exercise from 0 to 100 km/h will be different. Thus, with a battery over 50% for the EQE 43 4MATIC, the time will be 4.2 s, compared to 3.5 s for the EQE 53 4MATIC+, provided that the battery is at least 70%. Thanks to the Dynamic Plus pack, this time can be reduced to 3.2 s. Interesting performance for a beast of 4.95 m and 2.5 t.

Regarding charging, our two Mercedes EQE AMGs are compatible with fast charging (170 kW), just like the classic EQE. Thus, Mercedes indicates that we can recover 180 km of autonomy in 15 min. Originally, these two versions are equipped with on-board 11 kW chargers (nine hours for a full charge), but it is possible to acquire an optional 22 kW charger which will reduce the charging time to 4:30.

As for the interior equipment, it will be the same as the EQE, itself inspired by the EQS. Thus, we should benefit from the Hyperscreen, this large slab integrating the instrument cluster of 12.3 inches (diagonal of 31.24 cm), the central screen of 17.7 inches (diagonal of 43.95 cm) and a 12.3-inch passenger entertainment screen.

For the rest, apart from bucket seats with AMG logo, nothing really differs from the EQE AMG of the classic EQE, which offers the same adjustable shock absorbers as the EQS, except for one adaptation.

It remains to know the price of these two sedans in tracksuit, knowing that the prices of the basic EQE have not yet been disclosed.
