the metaverse is intriguing to say the least, mixing several advanced technologies to offer an enticing virtual universe. Mark Zuckerberg, boss of Meta, sees enormous potential in it. He recently held the Meta Connect 2022but the ads did not appeal to everyone.
And among the disappointed, we find Phil Spencer, boss of the branch Xbox of Microsoft. During the WSJ Tech Live 2022Phil Spencer said thathe sees the metaverse current as “a badly made video game”and he struggles to see the full potential of this technology:
If I think of video games, for years we have gathered people in 3D spaces to go save the world from alien invaders or conquer a castle. Building a metaverse that looks like a meeting room, I just find that’s not where I want to spend most of my time.
It is clear that in an era where video games are now photorealistic, The Last of Us Part I (at €61.49 to Leclerc) has again impressed us recently, seeing avatars with cartoonish and very simple shapes in environments rooted in reality is nothing really exhilarating. Let us remember, however, that Meta and Microsoft work together on technology VR and AR, but more designed for the professional world. On the video game side, it will be necessary to wait for sacred developments to seduce manufacturers and players.
