According to the Jato website, Tesla and MG are the two main beneficiaries of the boom in electric car sales seen in Europe in August and September 2023.
The MG4 arrived in force on the electric passenger vehicle market in France. The compact sedan appeals to many French motorists, so much so that by 2023, MG Motor has already sold nearly 21,000 cars on the territory. A resounding performance which earned the manufacturer the opportunity to upgrade third place among the best-selling brands in September 2023, capturing 2.1% of monthly sales in the category of electric cars for individuals.
This success, MG Motor obviously owes it to the MG4, the direct competitor of the Volkswagen ID.3 and the Renault Megane. Since the start of the year, the brand has sold 12,199 units of this compact 5-door electric car. This model is popular thanks to its very aggressive price of 28,990 eurosbut also for a theoretical autonomy of 350 km and a recharge in just over 40 minutes.

We are far from the stratospheric sales of Tesla, with its Model 3 and above all, the Model Y, set to win the title of the best-selling electric car on the Old Continent. The Chinese brand still has the luxury of styling such established brands as Peugeot, Opel and even Audi on European soil. This tsunami of Chinese electric cars is only just beginning. The Automobile Propre site also underlines that cars MGs account for “69% of all vehicles from China sold in Europe”.
Let us emphasize that the rise of the MG4 comes at the expense of a French automobile : the 100% electric Megane E-Tech which, again according to Automobile Propre, is seeing its sales melt like snow in the sun, in favor of the MG4. Let’s also not forget that the company has given priority to the government with its leasing offer for less than €100 per month, a measure which has probably encouraged many consumers to take the plunge and acquire an MG.
