“The most basic decency and humanity”, the outraged victims of the judicial turn

While the judge in charge of the Pierre Palmade case – involved last year in a serious road accident – clarified the charges against him, the victims and their families react, denouncing this undoubtedly highly contested decision .

It was February 10, 2023. The dramatic road accident made the headlines: Pierre Palmade was involved in a collision with a car, on Departmental 372 between the towns of Perthes and Villiers-en-Bière (Seine-et-Marne), near his home. Under the influence of drugs, tested positive for cocaine, the comedian, now 56 years old, was placed in police custody given the consequences linked to this accident. In the opposite car, there were a 38-year-old father and his 10-year-old son, both seriously injured, as well as a pregnant woman who lost her baby in the collision.

While many of his friends turned their backs on him, Pierre Palmade had to resolve to confronting addiction problems and finds himself confronted with justice. The Melun public prosecutor’s office had requested that Michèle Laroque’s ex-acolyte be prosecuted for manslaughter following the loss of the baby. But taking into account the fact that an expertise has meant that the child died before birth, Justice ultimately did not accept this charge.

The victims’ lawyer speaks

Monday May 27, more than a year after the accident, the Melun public prosecutor’s office announced that Pierre Palmade was referred to the criminal court for “unintentional injuries”, which brings the length of imprisonment he risks to 14 years and his possible fine to 200,000 euros. More precisely, it is stipulated that the actor is being prosecuted for “unintentional injuries by a driver who deliberately violated a particular duty of care or safety”it is said, which provokes indignation as we can read on social networks, but also the distress of the victims and their loved ones.
