Where does the tradition of the advent calendar come from?

But where does the tradition of the advent calendar come from? The actual origins of the calendar are in the 19th century. The exact year is not known, but the first Advent calendar appeared in Germany between 1902 and 1908 – at that time it was still called the ” Christmas Calendar ”. It is not clear who was the inventor of the calendar. What is certain, however, is that they have their origins in the Protestant environment.
