The most beautiful pictures – The snow is here: This is how Saturday began in Tyrol

Tyrol presented itself partly covered in sugar, partly already covered in snow on Saturday morning. During the night, Mrs. Holle began to send her greetings. Apart from a few outliers, this had little impact on traffic. The avalanche situation, however, is tense.

The weather report kept what it promised: the whole of Tyrol woke up to a layer of snow on Saturday. It started to snow late in the evening or at night, and in the morning the country really presented itself in winter dress. Winter greetings have already reached the “Krone” from all over Tyrol. The temperatures have dropped significantly. In the lower Ötztal, GeoSphere Austria measured lows of -10.6 degrees Celsius. The weather is expected to continue throughout the weekend and beyond. According to GeoSphere, the sky in North Tyrol will remain very cloudy to cloudy, but the snow showers should ease off during the morning before intensifying again in the afternoon and continuing to increase in the evening. According to the weather service, the greatest amounts of precipitation are expected in the Arlberg region and in the Northern Alps. In East Tyrol, however, there is a strong Tauern wind, which drives the snow showers southwards in a weaker form. The maximum values are -1 to +3 degrees, in Lienz they can rise to up to 6 degrees. According to GeoSpere, it will still be wintry on Sunday, even though the snowfall is gradually easing. Chain compulsory and road closure. Large amounts of snow were not yet present on Saturday morning, but the winter service was already in demand. But there was no major traffic chaos. The ÖAMTC reported only a few restrictions due to the snowfall on Saturday morning. The Fernpass between Nassereith and Biberwier was affected. There, the snow-covered, slippery road caused traffic disruptions in both directions. The B188 Silvrettastraße between Mathon and Wirl had to be closed: snow drifts blocked the road. For vehicles over 3.5 tons, snow chain requirements were in force in some places on Saturday morning, namely at Pass Thurn, on the Arlbergstrasse and on the Hochkönigstrasse between Tyrol and Salzburg. Avalanche danger at warning level 3. Meanwhile, the snow on the mountains brought an increased risk of avalanches on Saturday the Tyrolean avalanche warning service assessed the situation as danger level 3 – significant. As reported, the first avalanche death of the season was caused on Thursday by a river that buried an alpinist from Poland at the bell tower in the Ötztal Alps.
