Highly anticipated by fans of the novel, the film “Red, White & Royal Blue” is finally available on Prime Video. What is this romance worth that should be one of the successes of the rest of the summer?
WHAT IS IT ABOUT ?
The son of the American president, Alex Claremont-Diaz, is a good match. However, he has a run-in with his British royal counterpart, Prince Henry, caught on camera by paparazzi. This quarrel calls into question the Anglo-American diplomatic relations. The two families then organize a friendly rapprochement between the two young men.

WHO IS IT WITH?
Under the features of the star duo, we find Nicholas Galitzine in the role of the British prince. He was notably seen in the Netflix film Our broken hearts and the sequel to The Craft in 2020. Facing him, Taylor Zakhar Perez plays the son of the President of the United States. It was revealed, among other things, in the sequel to The Kissing Booth, still on Netflix.
Alongside them, we find Sarah Shahi, the star of the series Sex/Life, Uma Thurman in the role of the American head of state and Stephen Fry, who makes an exceptional appearance in the role of the king of England.
IT’S WORTH CHECKING OUT ?
Published in 2019, the novel Red, White & Royal Blue – strangely translated as My Dear F***ing Prince in French – has established itself as one of the biggest hits in young adult literature.
During the 2016 US presidential election, author Casey McQuiston had the idea of imagining an impossible love story between the Crown Prince of England and… the son of the President of the United States. A romance necessarily placed in the spotlight which would force the two heroes to live their passion in broad daylight.

The film adaptation finally arrives. Well aware of its postulate worthy of a fanfiction – we even swim in pure fantasy – the film is above all an entertainment, intended for a young audience, multiplying the moments of comedy.
If the first quarter of an hour can raise eyebrows, we finally get caught up in the game of this intrigue which refers to the classics of romantic comedy. The two actors, looking like models out of a Calvin Klein advertisement, form an attractive and ultimately touching duo.
Red, White & Royal Blue is a real film of its time, which puts the use of social networks at the center of its story – the two characters maintain, at first, an epistolary relationship. The direction also incorporates these tools in an ingenious way on the screen. Modernity also passes through its subject: a homosexual romance between two public figures.

Beneath its apparent lightness, the film tackles, notably in its last part, the homophobia of an entire system, in particular of the monarchy which, prevented by all its protocols, leaves little room for difference. One of the major scenes of the feature film perfectly illustrates this question.
Without much pretension, Red, White & Royal Blue is a solar romance, funny, sexy and entertaining, which does not forget to be relevant. Something to reassure fans of the original book.
