the most incongruous products of CES 2023

Every CES must have its share of products that come out of the traditional boxes. Here is a small anthology of our design.

What would CES be without its share of slightly wacky innovations, completely lunar start-ups and other oddities. This year, with the first real show since the Covid crisis, CES 2023 allowed us to stock up on these novelties that we didn’t necessarily expect, but with which we will have to live now.

A car that changes color at BMW

More than ever, the CES has turned into an electric car show where the latest innovations are presented. BMW has unveiled a concept car completely covered in e-ink paint.

The Concept i Vision Dee, that’s its name, can display 32 colors as well as animations on the bodywork. Everything is cut into 240 individually controlled sections.

Battery-powered wireless TV

Why ? This is a question that the designers of this fully wireless 55-inch Oled 4K screen have certainly not asked.

Yes, you read correctly, Displace integrates four batteries into its television for a theoretical autonomy of around one month. Be careful however, the device remains heavy since it weighs 12 kg. It is also impossible to connect anything to it, it is even the concept. Farewell, then, to the PS5 parties at the campsite.

A connected bath mat

Halfway between the wacky and the good idea, here is the connected bath mat. Designed by BBalance, it is able to measure weight, body composition, posture and balance after getting out of the shower.

The main interest is thus to be able to measure a whole bunch of metrics daily without having to inflict them on yourself every day. You can choose to consult them at the time that seems most convenient to you.

The external screen of Honda and Sony car

Honda and Sony have joined forces to create a joint brand called Sony Honda Mobility. A new prototype was shown at CES 2023, the Afeela. It will be available for pre-orders for the North American market from 2025.

And one of its peculiarities, beyond the presence of Unreal Engine 5 as OS, is the presence of an external screen (yes yes) between the two headlights. This is mainly used for the aesthetics of the car, but it is possible to look Spiderman No Way Home. Yes, we too were weirded out.

A connected perch

If you have ever installed a perch, you should know that the place where it is located is excessively strategic. If you want to observe the birds without disturbing them, it can sometimes be a bit of a headache.

Meet Birdbuddy, a connected bird perch. This one simply allows us to observe our little beaked friends when they come to feed on the seeds deposited in their feeder. It costs 139 euros.

Withings U Scan

It is without a doubt one of the most amazing products of the show, but which also has a real utility. Here is the Withing U-Scan to analyze your urine in particular.

This pebble-shaped device takes up the concept of the good old deodorant block. Two different cartridges are offered, one is more for measuring menstrual cycles while the other will focus on food and hydration. Even if the subject can lend to laugh somewhat, it is thus very serious.
