The most touching farewells of 2022
Germany also mourns the death of the Queen
In 2022, Germans mourned the loss of numerous famous people. In particular, the death of the Queen was obviously very moving for many.
“The death of my beloved mother, Her Majesty The Queen, is a moment of great sadness for me and all members of my family,” King Charles III said. (74) on September 8th. The whole world shared this grief with the Royals – including many people in Germany.
The Google annual review 2022 indicates how moving the farewell to the monarch must have been for many. As part of its review, Google has also published a list that shows the farewells in which Internet users made a particularly large number of search queries in 2022 – in descending order.
The Death of the Queen: The End of an Era
A long era ended with the death of the British Queen at the age of 96. Queen Elizabeth II (1926-2022) had been on the throne since 1952 and had celebrated her platinum jubilee shortly before her death. “Queen Elizabeth is a woman who has shaped a century, in the United Kingdom and beyond,” condoled Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier (66). “Millions of Germans today feel connected to the people of the United Kingdom with sadness and heartfelt sympathy.”
Aaron Carter (1987-2022), who died unexpectedly at the beginning of November at the age of only 34, follows on the list of farewells. Nick Carter (42) of the Backstreet Boys, the late singer’s older brother, said goodbye on Instagram with joint shots from old days. He wrote that his heart was broken and his love for his brother never faded, even though they had a “complicated relationship.”
The death of Anne Heche (1969-2022) was also shocking for many people. The US actress, known from “Donnie Brasco” and “Six Days, Seven Nights”, suffered serious brain injuries in a car accident. A little later she was declared brain dead and life support was discontinued.
With “Us Uwe” a German football legend died
In the summer of 2022, Germany had to say goodbye to one of its greatest football legends. For many, Uwe Seeler’s (1936-2022) death must have been so painful because he was not only a star on the pitch, but also one without any airs. His club, Hamburger SV, mourns “the greatest HSVer of all time,” it said in a statement at the time. “Uwe Seeler stands for everything that characterizes a good person: down-to-earth, loyalty, joie de vivre, and he was always approachable. He is the epitome of HSV,” said board member Jonas Boldt (40) in a statement.
Rock singer Meat Loaf (1947-2022) died in January. “He meant so much to so many people and it was a pleasure to share him with the world,” said his wife Deborah Gillespie at that time the US magazine “People”. “From the day we met, he was my world and I loved him. Not a day went by that we didn’t tell each other how much we love them. Not a day that we didn’t hug. “
In April, actress Ninon Bohm (52) announced that Uwe Bohm (1962-2022) died “suddenly and unexpectedly”. “It is with infinite sadness that we announce the passing of my husband, my son’s beloved father and the great actor Uwe Bohm”, she had written on Instagram. Bohm has appeared in numerous film and television productions, including several “Tatort” roles and the 2016 motion picture “Tschick”.
Hardy Krüger (1928-2022), one of the greatest German actors of the 1950s and 1960s, had also died a few weeks earlier. His son Hardy Krueger Jr. (54) wrote on Instagram: “Here the last curtain has fallen on the stage of the world and the world bows before you, father!” There remains love, respect and the wish “that your path will now be peaceful and happier. Over there on the other side.”
The death of the entrepreneur Rainer Schaller (1969-2022) was particularly tragic. In October, the founder of the fitness chain McFit crashed in a private plane off the coast of Costa Rica. The company announced in Novemberthat the bodies of Schaller and his son had been identified. Schaller’s partner and daughter as well as a colleague and the pilot are still missing.
“My dearest Olivia, you have made all our lives so much better”

I love you so much. We will see you again at the end of the road and we will all be reunited.”
