The most polluting foods: New study holds some surprises


Products made from dried beef, such as biltong or beef jerky, achieved the highest value in the study. Thus, the trend product is considered the most environmentally harmful food. Meat and cheese products have by far the worst environmental balance. Desserts and baked goods are in the middle value range.

According to Wert, however, fruit, vegetables, sugar, flour, soups, salads, bread and breakfast cereals are environmentally friendly. But even unhealthy products do not necessarily have to be bad for the environment: sugary drinks, for example, have a very low environmental impact.
