“Der Bergdoktor” star Hans Sigl argues with critical fans: “I am amazed at this exaggerated identification and the old morality”

“Der Bergdoktor” season 16 will probably be known for all time as by far the most dramatic season of all: the Gruber family is at odds, Martin (Hans Sigl, 53) and Hans (Heiko Ruprecht, 50) don’t speak a word to each other anymore, Hans and Linn (Andrea Gerhard, 39) are separating for the time being, Lilli (Ronja Forcher, 26) has moved out and Lisbeth (Monika Baumgartner, 71) is in a coma. For many fans this is a bit too much drama, other fans don’t understand the whole dispute anyway, after all Hans seems so angry that brother Martin had an affair with his deceased wife and wanted to emigrate with her.

But exactly the latter, namely the planned emigration to New York, should have been known to him since season 1, episode 2, as many a fan has noted with surprise. Did the screenwriters make a mistake? What seemed new for Hans was that the affair between his wife and Martin was not a one-night stand, but a story that dragged on for months.

Either way, the criticism of the season does not subside even after the finale – which encouraged actor Sigl weeks ago to report on Facebook with clear words. “In any case, I’m amazed at this almost exaggerated identification with the characters and the almost old manners of some comments. It not only seems old to me, but sometimes even outdated,” the actor shoots at the critical fan base. About the criticism of the reason for the brother dispute, he writes: “Was it illogical? Or was it just empathetic not to come out with it for so long and then don’t misunderstandings sometimes arise that develop on their own?”

The actor continues, “One could argue about the tension, the idea, or the creativity, but folks… it’s a series, it’s a fiction.” A fiction with real emotions for the fans – which is why it is hardly surprising that Sigl’s comment is still making waves in the media three weeks after publication. Maybe the reconciliation is yet to come – with the release of the possibly less dramatic season 17.
