Break the silence. This Tuesday, September 21, the Independent Commission on Incest and Sexual Violence against Children (Ciivise) is launching a major national campaign. The goal ? Collect the testimonies of incest victims who are still too often silent and who are nevertheless 160,000 each year in France

For this campaign, the commission is launching a telephone platform from 10 am for the victims and their relatives. Available on two listening lines depending on whether you live in France (0 805 802 804) or overseas (0 800 100 811), calls are anonymous and free. And so that everyone is familiar with this platform, the Ciivise has created an advertising campaign called “Together, let’s get out of the silence”. In this spot broadcast on social networks and on television, six personalities who were victims of sexual violence during their childhood speak. This is the case of host Flavie Flament, former rugby player Sébastien Boueilh or singer Mai Lan Chapiron.

A tour of France to listen to the victims of incest

“This campaign could also bring out the words of all collateral victims, knowing that, according to statistics, 32% of French people would know a victim of incest”, stated in the pages of Parisian, Isabelle Aubry, president of the association Facing incest. According to data from the 2015 national Virage survey, 14.5% of women and 4% of men have experienced sexual violence in their lifetime. A figure that is constantly increasing and for the vast majority of these victims, the violence was committed when they were minors.

With this listening number, victims will be heard by experienced listeners, “Able to decipher the mechanisms of sexual violence and the aggressor’s strategy and will be able to guide them if they need psychological, social or legal help”, explained to AFP Édouard Durand, children’s judge and co-president of the Ciivise. Launched in January following the Duhamel affair and the extent of the #MeTooInceste hashtag on social networks, the commission will organize from October 20, a grand tour of France of public meetings to raise awareness, meet professionals and listen to victims.
