The national gendarmerie to conquer 16-24 year olds on TikTok

“We want to show behind the scenes of the gendarmerie, behind the scene, like the preparation for an operation”, specifies Jean-Valéry Lettermann, head of the press service (Sirpa) of the gendarmerie.

The national gendarmerie, very present on social networks since 2010, arrives this Thursday, September 15 at midday on TikTok, the favorite network for young people aged 16 to 24.

Our arrival on TikTok responds to our logic of proximity, of reaching out to our fellow citizens. We know that young people aged 16 to 24 are less on other social networks“, told AFP General Jean-Valéry Lettermann, head of the press service (Sirpa) of the gendarmerie.

Priority to prevention

On TikTok, “we want to show behind the scenes of the gendarmerie, behind the scenes, like the preparation of an operation, the gendarmerie seen from the inside“, he added. As on the other networks where the gendarmerie is present, there will be prevention messages, always with “this logic of accountability“, that’s to say “to report to our fellow citizens“, insisted the general.

At midday, the first message will be a kind of “trailer showing a panel of the different missionscarried out by the gendarmes. The videos will be shown atrate of two per week, knowing that on TikTok videos have several lives“, according to the boss of the Sirpa gendarmerie.

The national gendarmerie has been present since 2010 on social networks with Facebook (900,000 subscribers). Its presence on Twitter (600,000 subscribers) and Instagram (260,000 subscribers) dates back to 2014. It is also active on LinkedIn and YouTube, where it has offered long formats since 2022.

In total, according to General Lettermann, the gendarmerie has “5 million subscribers” on social networks which are “an essential vector of communication“.
