Limescale can eventually clog the holes of a shower head. To get rid of it, you can use a method based on white vinegar and ingenuity.
The bathroom is a room that requires a lot of maintenance. Between humidity and limestone, furniture, walls and utensils are subject to many constraints. And even with regular cleaning, it’s easy to let hidden areas get dirty, slowly but surely. Sometimes we don’t realize the consequences. This can especially be the case with the shower head.. This place is particularly affected by limescale deposits, to which soap residue can be added.
These elements will gradually plug the holes of the pommel. Over time, the jets may therefore go sideways, and the water pressure will decrease. This area can be difficult to clean given the shape of the pommel and the difficulty of accessing the small holes. However, we can find a trick to unclog it.
Soak in a plastic bag
Regarding limestone, white vinegar has already proven itself. Start by passing a sponge soaked in this liquid. The pommel should be soaked in a solution of equal parts water and vinegar. If you can’t take it apart or prefer to avoid it, or just want to use less vinegar, use a well-sealed plastic bag. Fill it with water and vinegar, dip the knob in it. Close with a soft iron wire or a rubber band.
Leave to soak for 20 minutes to an hour (the shortest time possible for brass or polished bronze fittings). Rub to remove as much limescale as possible, then turn on the hot water to the maximum to evacuate the residues from the orifices. If you don’t have crystal vinegar, cider vinegar works too, but it’s much more expensive.
