The Navigo pass will land on iPhones in less than two months. The opportunity to no longer bother with the famous transport card!

If you are from the Ile-de-France region, you have already heard for some time about the upcoming possibility of directly integrating your Navigo pass into the iPhone. A project that was postponed several times, before we learned at the beginning of the year that we would only have to wait a few months. And this is what has been confirmed to us today, with a card which should finally soon be able to take its place in your iPhone.

See you at the end of May

When will the Navigo pass finally be able to be stored in an iPhone? This question, which must have been asked many times, finally has its definitive answer: at the end of May. This is what Île-de-France Mobilités (IDFM) has just indicated to AFP.

The region will finally join the circle of territories allowing you to have transport tickets on your iPhone. A city like London has already allowed this possibility for almost a decade, with the arrival of this system in 2015, and an improvement in 2019 allowing the title to be validated without even unlocking the device.

A project that took a long time to come to fruition

Apple will be the latest arrival in this area, since Android smartphone owners have had the option of integrating their Navigo pass into the phone since October 2022.

If things dragged on much longer with Apple, it was because it was first necessary to reach an agreement between the Cupertino company and IDFM for the use of NFC for iPhones, an agreement reached in 2022. What followed was several administrative problems, then the need to carry out further technological development », which postponed the deployment of the measure from the first to the second quarter of 2024.

In less than two months, it is therefore good for all the inhabitants of Île-de-France. And the system should find its audience, since, in five years, 21 million transport tickets in the region have been produced directly on smartphones according to figures from IDFM.
