The new Apple iPad Pro could arrive “in the coming days”

Apple isn’t quite done with its end-of-year parade. After formalizing its iPhone 14 and 14 Pro a few weeks ago, the Apple brand is preparing to launch a new version of its iPad Pro 11 and 12.9 inches, its tablets dedicated to productivity.

iPad Pro with M2 chip

According to Mark Gurman, the company is preparing to unveil its new gadgets “in the coming days“. But no big rout, invitation to Cupertino or extended keynote this time, the two new tablets should be announced through a simple press release, seems to know the journalist from Bloomberg. A rather welcome change of tone in a month of October already very rich in announcements. It must be said that the two new iPad Pro should not exactly revolutionize the range.

The devices, known for the moment as J617 and J620, would display as a main novelty the arrival of an M2 chip to replace the M1 chip of the 2021 models. A year and a half after the release of the last iPad Pro, it it would therefore seem that Apple is updating its range without upsetting everything. The arrival of an M2 chip in the two tablets still promises a performance gain of around 20%. A significant feature for devices that present themselves as real alternatives to laptops.

A priori no change is to be expected on the design side. The iPad Pro 2022 will still sport the rectangular and minimalist look in vogue since 2018. And if rumors mentioned the possibility that the 11-inch model inherits a mini-led screen (like the 12.9-inch model), this will probably not be for this year. According to Ross Younga display industry analyst, this year’s 11-inch model will still come with an LCD panel.

An iPad 10 with USB-C

A third tablet could also see the light of day this week or next. It would be a revision of the entry-level iPad, the last model of which was released just over a year ago. In terms of novelties, we should find a new design – finally! – which would be similar to that of the iPad Pro. We therefore hope that the thick borders and the home button will bow out after years of good and loyal service. The machine should also be equipped with a USB-C port – and it’s not too soon – and a 5G modem. Point of Apple Silicon processor (M1 or M2) on the other hand, the tablet will obviously arrive equipped with an A14 Bionic chip – the one found in the iPhone 12.

In view of the changes planned by Apple, we understand better why the brand does not risk presenting all this during a high-sounding keynote. The 2022 range of iPads and iPad Pros is more about grooming and upgrading last year’s models than technological breakthrough. And it’s not so bad.
