It’s finally here, the new BMW 5 Series with 100% electric motorization.

The manufacturer sees double with a “basic” eDrive model and a sports version with the “M” badge.

The new 5 Series gives in to the call of the electric: here is the i5

It’s the turn of the essential 5 Series to give in to the call of 100% electric motorization at BMW. Born in the early 1970s, the BMW 5 Series range is being renewed with a revamped look, but also (and above all?) the availability from the launch of an electric version: the BMW i5.

For the occasion, BMW will offer two distinct models, with the possibility of benefiting from a single engine (and propulsion) with the eDrive 40, or a dual engine (and xDrive all-wheel drive) with the M60. The latter takes up the famous badge reserved for the brand’s sports models.

The first will be able to benefit from a block of up to 250 kW (340 horsepower), while the second will be able to count on a total power of 442 kW (i.e. no less than 600 horsepower).

The silhouette of the new 5 Series is elongated to say the least, with a vehicle that exceeds 5 meters, a grille that is still just as impressive, optics that extend far beyond the sides, not to mention a sportier finish for the M60. Remember that BMW recently lifted the veil on its windshield of the future, the Panoramic Vision.

From 76,000 euros in France

Battery side, no jealousy, regardless of the version chosen, the BMW i5 can count on a block of 81.2 kWh, enough to allow a range of between 480 and 580 kilometers for the eDrive 40 version, and 455 to 515 kilometers for the M60 version. In terms of charging, the BWM i5 has an 11 kW charger, with the possibility of opting for a 22 kW model (optional).

On board, we can take advantage of the BMW Curved Display, which combines a 12.3-inch screen with another 14.9-inch screen for the center console. We also find here the Interaction Bar, without forgetting materials that are both qualitative and vegan.

Finally, on the price side, the BMW i5 is offered from 76,200 euros in France for the eDrive 40, while the M60 is displayed from 107,500 euros. The break and PHEV versions will be launched later.
