Hardly named, the new government of Elisabeth Borne connects the controversies. After the appointment of Pap Ndiaye to National Education, strongly criticized by a large part of the political class on the right for his past positions on racial discrimination or police violence, Mediapart reveals that Damien Abad is accused by two women of sexual assaults which allegedly took place in 2010 and 2011. The new Minister of Solidarity denies the charges against him.

Accused of sexual assault, Damien Abad defended himself this Sunday. Although presumed innocent, the president of the LR group in the National Assembly was forced to explain himself this Sunday in a press release: “I strongly contest these accusations… The acts related are simply impossible for me to perform. because of my disability”, assured the minister after the publication of an article in Mediapart.

Damien Abad, suffering from a congenital disease which restricts the mobility of his four limbs, is accused of rape by two women. The first tells of having had a black hole after having a glass of champagne with the one who was at the time an MEP. She reportedly woke up the next day by his side in a hotel room in her underwear, feeling drugged.

The weakened government

The other young woman who accuses her, a former activist of the New Center, describes the “psychological constraint” that Damien Abad would have exerted on her. She recounts his urgent text messages to obtain a photo of his chest, as well as a sexual relationship marked by “disrespect, injunction and insistence”, and during which he would have imposed anal penetration on her. His complaint, filed in 2017, was dismissed after confrontation.

Asked about the subject, Elisabeth Borne, traveling to Calvados this weekend where she is a legislative candidate, said she was not aware. But, the new tenant of Matignon warns: “If justice is seized again, we will draw all the consequences.” A declaration which weakens Damien Abad and the government a little more, while the first council of ministers of the new five-year period is to be held this Monday at 10 a.m.
