After The Last Trip, Leonardo, the TV movie Pilote on OCS, or even I promise you, the French adaptation of This Is Us for TF1, the projects are linked for Hugo Becker.

Met today as part of the 61st Monte-Carlo Television Festival, the actor, also seen in Baron Noir, Chefs, or even Gossip Girl, revealed to us that he had just joined the cast of the series The New Look , worn by Juliette Binoche and Ben Mendelsohn, and intended for the Apple TV+ platform.

Created by Todd A. Kessler, who worked on The Sopranos, Damages, and Bloodline, The New Look, which is filmed entirely in Paris, will transport us to the French capital, in the 1940s, under the Nazi occupation, at the time where Coco Chanel’s reign over fashion is coming to an end.

Then emerges a new rising star, Christian Dior who, with his revolutionary and iconic New Look style, will turn the world of haute couture upside down and make a name for himself for generations to come.

“I have just started filming an English series, The New Look, written by Todd Kessler”told us Hugo Becker about this series which promises to be one of the next Apple TV + fiction events. “There is a great cast, which is made up of Juliette Binoche, John Malkovich, Ben Mendelson, Maisie Williams”.

“It’s a thriller that takes place during the Second World War and follows the journey of great couturiers like Christian Dior, Coco Chanel, Balmain, Balenciaga, or Givenchy. And the interactions between these people, the Nazi regime, the Vichy regime, the Resistance”.

“I play Hervé des Charbonneries, who existed and who was a leader of the Resistance in Paris”continues Hugo Becker. “He was the husband of Catherine Dior, whom he brought into the Resistance. I have the chance to play the character who embodies the Resistance in this series”.

“And I’m quite happy about that because it would have pleased my grandfather, who did important things and who is someone for whom I had a lot of admiration. Artistically, the requirement is really present at all levels. It’s a very big project. And working with people like that is always exciting.”.

Emily Mortimer and Claes Bang (The Northman) complete the cast of this fresco devoted to fashion icons Coco Chanel and Christian Dior, who are respectively portrayed by Juliette Binoche and Ben Mendelson.

In the coming months, Hugo Becker will be in the credits on France 2 by Diane de Poitiers, a saga by Josée Dayan with Isabelle Adjani in the title role. And the actor will also hold the main role of Vaincre ou Die, a film by Paul Mignot on the Vendée war which will be released in cinemas in February 2023, notably with Jean-Hugues Anglade, Rod Paradot, and Gilles Cohen.

A busy news, to which is added the filming of season 3 of I promise you this summer, on which Hugo Becker takes a look full of humility. “I’m very lucky, I try to live up to the roles I’m given. A film like The Last Voyage, for example, was a childhood dream, an SF film with rockets, flying cars. Shooting with Jean Reno, Philippe Katerine, it’s a chance”.

“Pilot was a great experience too. We were able to meet people from GIGN, it was exciting. What’s great is being able to explore universes that have nothing to do with it. We have the illusion of live several lives. It’s exciting and quite crazy. That’s why I do this job”.
