The new Porsche Cayenne Hybrid once again becomes the most powerful SUV

For its 21st anniversary, the emblematic SUV of the German brand Porsche has the right to a restyling and an update that will put it back in the race against its recent competitors. To counter the Ferrari Purosangue, Lamborghini Urus and other Aston Martin DBX 707, the Stuttgart SUV is reviewing its engine to leave its opponents in the rear view mirror.

New motors and new battery

The symbolic bar of 500 hp has long since been exceeded by the sportiest SUVs, and the wealthy customers of these cars are always asking for more. The Porsche Cayenne, the first version of which saw the light of day in 2002, has relied on hybridization since 2018 to increase power.

The new Porsche Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid takes advantage of the restyling to push the cavalry to the maximum. Thus, its 4-liter twin-turbo petrol V8 now displays 599 hp (compared to 550 previously), while the electric motor goes from 136 to 176 hp. The cumulative power reaches 739 hp, while the torque climbs to 950 nm. On the battery side, Porsche is adding to its SUV a 25.9 kWh accumulator (against 14.1 kWh) supposed to offer up to 82 km of autonomy in the city and drive without emissions, despite a thermal monstrosity under the hood.

Hybridization at the service of performance

This Turbo E-Hybrid version is the most powerful and fastest, claiming an acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.7 s and a maximum speed of 295 km/h. As usual with Porsche, the catalog of options is well filled and allows the GT Pack to be added for the “modest” sum of €30,000, notably granting ceramic brakes, lowered air suspensions and various adaptations of the bodywork pushing the counter up to 305 km/h and gaining 0.1 s on acceleration.

On the price side, the Porsche Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid plays in the court of ultra luxury with a bill of €176,324 for the basic version and €179,775. By adding a few options, the addition quickly exceeds 200,000 €, however more than half the price of its competitors. In this, it is well helped by its hybridization which allows it to free itself from the ecological malus which can reach 50,000 €. Without being able to say that the Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid is ecological, it nevertheless remains more virtuous than its thermal competitors and we are finally delighted that Porsche has an electric strategy to convert its wealthy customers.
