The next Alfa Romeo Giulia will be electric: what we know

The boss of Alfa Romeo has confirmed it: the next generation of the Giulia will be 100% electric. It should arrive in 2027.

The electrical novelties follow one another, but are not alike. It is true that for some time now, manufacturers have been chaining the revelations of zero-emission models, while all are preparing to begin a profound change. While the European Union wants to ban the sale of internal combustion vehicles by 2035, brands have no choice but to increase the number of trendy models.

And all follow the trend, by choice for some, but above all by obligation for many others. The opportunity for a handful to catch up, as is the case for Alfa Romeo. If the Italian firm was losing momentum and a little behind its competitors, now it is starting to regain a bit of the beast, under the impetus of its new boss, Jean-Philippe Imparato.

A connected new generation

Formerly at the head of Peugeot, the latter recently gave some information on the future of Alfa Romeo to our colleagues at Automotive News. And in particular on that of the star sedan of the brand, the Giulia, launched in 2015 already. Restyled in a few months, it should not keep its thermal engine forever: it could be that the next generation will become 100% electric.
To tell the truth, it’s more than a rumor, since it was Jean-Philippe Imparato himself who announced it during an interview. He points out that “the Giulia is absolutely stunning, so there is a future for this type of car, but it will be a future that will be electrified. This probably means a 100% electric vehicle “.

Launch in 2027

For the moment, we still know very little about this new version, which should then abandon the Giorgio platform, in favor of the new STLA architecture developed by the Stellantis group. The sedan could then be equipped with batteries ranging from 101 to 118 kWh, in order to be able to travel up to 800 kilometers on a single charge on the highest versions.
According to our colleagues, the next generation of the Alfa Romeo Giulia should officially see the light of day during the year 2027. A date which was not chosen at random, since it is from this that the Italian firm will become 100% electric. Other cool models are also in the works, including a compact SUV below the Tonale.
