The next Apple Watch SE could well overshadow the Series 8

According to Mark Gurman, Apple is planning to launch three new Apple Watch models this year, including a new SE model, which this time will not be left behind in terms of power by the most premium model.

The Apple Watch SE has obviously not said its last word. This is via the latest edition of the newsletter power-on from journalist Mark Gurman that we are learning of the probable arrival, in the near future, of a slew of new products from Apple planned between the end of the year and the first quarter of 2023. Among them, we find in particular three new models of Apple Watch, including an SE version.

A much more powerful Apple Watch SE

According to Mark Gurman, Apple should renew its range of watches with three new references, including a much more powerful Apple Watch SE.

This new SE model would still include the same screen size as the 2020 model, which is 1.78 inches. However, unlike its predecessor which had swapped the S6 chip of the Series 6 for an S5 chip, this new version would this time use the same chip as the next Apple Watch Series 8 which should carry an S8 chip.

Apple’s connected watch offer therefore seems to be on the way to metamorphosis again. The Apple Watch Series 3 should eventually leave the apple catalog, not being eligible for watchOS 9 (announced at WWDC 2022).

According to Mark Gurman, it is the current SE model that would take over the place of the Apple Watch Series 3 and would be the brand’s new appeal offering. For the moment, the Apple Watch Series 3 is still its most affordable offer at 219 euros. The Apple Watch SE is offered from 299 euros when the Apple Watch Series 7 starts at 429 euros.

Three new models on the program

The new Apple Watch SE would be accompanied this year by an Apple Watch more resistant to shocks. A more robust “rugged” model intended for athletes or people who use their watch in extreme environments. Called by some sources the “Explorer Edition”, this watch would have a rubbery coating that is more durable than metal cases.

watchOS 9 will notably allow better activity monitoring and will offer Apple Watch users the possibility of carrying out “multi-sport” training sessions with automatic switching between different activities. This new model of Apple Watch could therefore be useful in certain circumstances.

The range would of course include at its top the Apple Watch Series 8 which should include on board a new body temperature sensor as well as a new low consumption mode which would allow it to consume less battery to perform certain tasks.

This latest model is also expected with a more rectangular design than the previous one and a flat screen reminiscent of the design language of the latest iPhones. If Apple follows its usual schedule, we should see its new models at the same time as the announcement of the iPhone 14 next September.
