One of the next games The Witcher has finally given its news in a very special way. Fans should be over the moon, as it looks to be huge.
The Witcher franchise is currently eating all the racks. It’s no longer just a series of books, it’s also a TV series, a board game, and video games. Lots of video games. After a third opus acclaimed by players and critics, we could imagine that CD Projekt Red was not going to let the license fall into oblivion. Several projects are under construction, and one of them has shown signs of life. This will surely reassure some players.
The Witcher Sirius is back
The small team at The Molasses Flood is working hard on a The Witcher title that is not going to be quite like the others. From the outset, we were told about an unexpected, refreshing experience that would surprise early fans. Project Sirius was then to offer a multiplayer formula in cooperation with PvE, all in the universe created by Andrzej Sapkowski. However, everything did not go as planned, and the Polish studio dropped the ax. Things then took a rather dramatic turn.
Last March, CD Projekt announced that development would start from scratch, because the concept and its commercial potential did not live up to expectations. Two months later, a wave of layoffs hit The Molasses Flood. Many departments found themselves in the viewfinder, for a total of 29 employees, which amounted to half or almost of the workforce. Suffice to say that the future did not look bright. And yet, The Witcher Sirius has finally resurfaced.
We’re not talking about an official statement, but a big hint that was spotted on LinkedIn. The studio behind Sirius is looking for a level designer senior with the aim of shaping something very special: an open world à la The Witcher. This is big news, because until now, we didn’t know that we were going to be dealing with an open world. Of course, that was to be expected, but now we know that The Witcher Sirius should be a massive open world game. So yes, it’s not a new trailer or first images, but we can look forward to hearing about the title again.
The license has a bright future ahead of it
Aside from The Witcher Sirius, the franchise still has a bright future ahead of it. In the sphere of board games for example, with Path of Destiny, but especially in the video game sphere. We already have The Witcher 4 in preparation, but also a remake of the very first episode. However, like Sirius, we have no idea how far these games have progressed. CD Projekt Red is careful not to reveal the slightest bit of information about them, and for some fans, it’s quite frustrating. We will surely know more in the coming months, hoping to get a trailer, or even a release date.
