Did you love God of War Ragnarok? Excellent news for the license is further confirmed with this very recent discovery. Kratos is not ready for retirement.
God of War Ragnarok was a huge hit for the franchise, but also for PlayStation. Upon its release, it quite simply achieved the best launch for a single-player game from the brand. It has since been overtaken by Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, but it’s no less impressive. Last December, this episode also created a surprise with the launch of a free rogue-lite expansion. A generous DLC to keep fans waiting until the next adventure.
A new God of War game on PS5 or PS6?
GOW Valhalla was a big and beautiful, very unexpected surprise. Kratos’ journey continued beyond Ragnarok with a rogue-lite experience, but one that did not sacrifice the narrative dimension. What’s next? Santa Monica Studio, like other PlayStation Studios, is very busy and works on several projects at once. But the one that particularly interests us is the new God of War game which is becoming more and more confirmed. A few months ago, the studio was looking for candidates to swell their ranks, preferably with rather solid knowledge of the universe of the saga and especially of the formula of the last two games.
A strong clue which already revealed, without necessarily wanting to, the next title. And this project is obviously still in development since the Portuguese site Geekinout has made a new discovery. On the PlayStation portal, which brings together the various job offers for first-party studios, SIE Santa Monica still needs reinforcements and in particular a Senior Combat Designer. The lucky winner is required to have skill in combat design, and to be able to talk in detail about game systems or third-person action-RPG enemies.
A description that fits perfectly with the new God of War formula, but there’s more. Like last time, the applicant is asked to be able to “master the design choices made for the combat, systems, mechanics and enemies of God of War as well as GOW Ragnarok”. It’s hard to imagine why the studio would need an element with such knowledge, if it wasn’t to offer a new game to the license. A title that will leave the Nordic era behind for a still unknown universe.
Another title in development
Aside from this new God of War game, there is a persistent rumor that Cory Barlog, the director of GOW 2018, has taken over the director’s hat… but for an original IP. Recently, he spoke on Twitter and teased a very mysterious project. “ I see some early things coming together for this thing I’m working on. And GOD, the people I get to work with at Santa Monica are just fucking brilliant. Video games are cool “. Is it God of War or something completely new? You will have to wait until the revelation or possible leaks upstream.
