The new iPads are clearly on the horizon. As proof, leaks are increasing, which allows us to know a little more about their characteristics, and not only that.

If 2023 was a gloomy year for tablets, it is perhaps to bounce back better in 2024. In any case, Apple could be the engine of recovery for the sector with the release of the next iPad Pro and iPad Air.

The firm seems in any case to have worked a lot on the subject, because beyond the successive release delays, it seems that it has not rested on its laurels.

A logical evolution

Have you noticed that on your iPad 10e generation, the front camera is installed in horizontal mode, a bit like on a laptop? A choice that is also found on the Google Pixel Tablet or the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra, but not on other tablets manufactured by Apple.

At least, not on current generations. As on smartphones, the front camera remained in vertical mode, which would begin to be anachronistic, because the American giant plans to rectify the situation. According to a source renowned for its well-placed leaks, the 2024 iPad Air and iPad Pro should, in fact, see this component change position to switch to horizontal mode.

It remains to be seen what design choice Apple made. Will we be entitled to a notch like on the MacBook Air? If this is the direction taken by Samsung for its high-end tablet, nothing says that it will be the same for Apple, the new dimensions of these tablets not confirming much on this subject.

Two years of waiting, but a big facelift in perspective?

The Californian firm could also bring FaceID to the iPad Air, which is not a refusal, since the range has not been entitled to it until now. This is not the only development that the latter should experience, since it will also be entitled to a 12.9 inch version, like its Pro counterpart.

This change suggests some redesigns inside the devices which could have repercussions elsewhere. For example, one wonders if this will not cause problems with the current magnetic attachment used by the second generation Apple Pencil.

However, if there are sacrifices, they should quickly be forgotten, as the development is so welcome. Indeed, while Apple has pushed these devices a lot towards uses previously reserved for laptops, and having a webcam on the left of the screen is far from being a good idea.

In any case, we will know more at the end of March, the period planned for the presentation of the new iPad Pro and iPad Air (if all goes well). To find out if the iPad Mini will benefit from the same facelift, we will surely have to wait a little longer, its release being estimated for the rest of the year 2024.
