the next series looks crazy, a new trailer

The new PlayStation series announces its release date on video. It’s coming very soon and the unpublished excerpt unveiled thoroughly puts the card of the second degree.

Before the release of the film Gran Turismo, August 11, 2023, PlayStation will draw its new series. An adaptation of an old license, emblematic of the PS1 era, which is also about to return exclusively to PS5. A first extract puts in the bath.

Will PlayStation Productions and Sony Pictures succeed in reproducing the cardboard of The Last of Us series? We will have the answer very soon since the Twisted Metal series airs July 27, 2023 on Peacock. A channel unfortunately unavailable in France. So how to see it? No information but it could settle in the weeks to come. The TLOU HBO show was saved by Amazon Prime Video at the last minute, after months of uncertainty.

The Twisted Metal series, which will feature 10 30-minute episodes for Season 1, is directed by duo Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese (Deadpool, Zombieland), along with showrunner Michael Jonathan Smith (Cobra Kai). During an interview, Carter Swan, senior producer at PlayStation Studios, said that the teams would respect the lore of this universe. A dark humor preserved? Normally yes.

“Our showrunner Michael Jonathan Smith, who is one of the great writers of Cobra Kai, was a huge fan of the game and wanted it to be fun, even in dark times. […] The game is just so fun and crazy, so we try to capture that as best we can. […] Zombieland is a good barometer of what we can do. Their thing is that even in the most total apocalypse, you can have fun. They are able to take these violent and ridiculous things and make them funny”.

The first extract clearly shows this alternation between the threatening tone of Sweet Tooth who wants to do battle with John Doe (Anthony Mackie), swinging him in all directions, and the much more second-degree tone where the two characters, in full confrontation, begin to sing “Thong Song” by Sisqo.

Scream, Spider-Man, Captain America… in the cast

Like the show The Last of Us, PlayStation did not do things by halves in terms of casting. Anthony Mackie, seen in Captain America, plays John Doe. A former patient of Blackfield Asylum who is about to take part in a big tournament where violent pilots face each other.

Anthony Mackie will also cross paths with Neve Campbell. The star of Scream, Studio 54 or Sex crimes. The actress will be Raven, a character from the PlayStation 2 game Twisted Metal Black. In the app, she suffers harassment from her classmates and wears a very dark look. Hence the nickname of Raven or crow in French. Thomas Church (the Sandman in Spider-Man 3) will play Agent Stone. A patroller “sweet talker, cold and intransigent”, who will bring law and order to the disunited states of America with an iron fist. His calling? “Punish the smallest crimes with the harshest judgments”.

Stephanie Beatriz (Brooklyn Nine-Nine) was recruited to be Quiet. A car thief “badass and impulsive”. Between revenge and unlikely friendship with John Doe, Quiet seeks his place among the others. Will Arnett (LEGO Batman the movie, BoJack Horseman…) will be the voice of Sweet Tooth, but for the body, it will be the wrestler Samoa Joe. A PlayStation icon for older gamers.

“The Twisted Metal series tells the story of a pilot who is offered a chance for a better life, but only if he manages to deliver a mysterious package through a post-apocalyptic wasteland. With the help of a badass axe-wielding car thief, John Doe will have to battle savage marauders of vehicle destruction and other road hazards. Including a deranged clown driving an ice cream truck familiar to fans”.
